162: What’s Backward Periodization and How Does it Compare?

Posted by John Bosse on

?????????????
Everyone always talked about linear and non-linear periodization or even daily undulating periodization. The former usually moves from lighter heavier weights, but if someone is already well trained does it have to go in this order? What about going from heavier to lighter weights – what effects does that have? We do a throwback Thursday episode today looking at a 2009 study on reverse linear periodization. The applications half of today’s episode focuses on specific related thoughts on program design and also touches on detraining and non-uniform gains across different measures in our programs and how to wrap our heads around this phenomenon. John always reviews the full text of every article, but to see the abstract of the study discussed, click here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19057409 If you enjoy this podcast you’ll love the MUSCLE Detailz tribe – more info at http://appliedmusclescience.com/detailz
