183: Best Grip Width for Upright Rows? – Wide or Narrow?

Posted by John Bosse on

I don’t feel like I see as many people doing upright rows in the gym as I used to and those that I do are usually using a narrow grip, but is there any research to support a certain grip width over another? Today’s study reviewed compares 3 different grips widths and their effects on trap and delt activation in the upright row exercise. The applications half of the episode is about exercise selection and spacing within training splits, and also muscle length change vs. extent of activation and any possible role that may play in differential muscle hypertrophy. John always reviews the full text of every article, but to see the abstract of the study discussed, click here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22362088
